Portable Ground Plane Antenna for 433.97MHz

This is an experimental antenna you can build for limited applications.

The transmitting antenna and receiving antenna are probably the most critical items for optimal performance. A small piece of 1/4 wave (6.75") wire as a transmitting antenna in combination with a high gain yagi receiving antenna will work in a surveillance context with limited range. Best range is obtained by using both high gain transmitting and receiving antennas. Range testing was performed using a 14 element yagi beam for the transmitting antenna and an 8 element yagi beam for the receiving antenna. At an approximate distant of 3/4 mile, excellent picture quality was obtained. Using a 1/4 wave ground plane (shown above) for the transmitting antenna and a 14 element yagi beam for the receiving antenna, excellent picture quality at 1/2 mile was possible. If you plan to use a commerical yagi antenna, be sure to buy an ATV antenna designed to cover 433.97MHz.

Note: The VideoLynx 434 may be ordered with a fixed micro antenna for special applications such as model rocketry and radio controlled devices.
